QuickCal 1.1 is now released (product page here, direct download link here). This version is mainly a look-and-feel release, as I think I’ve finally made a version that isn’t horribly tacky. I hope so.
I’ve also implemented a ‘help’ system of sorts, where you’re given hints and tips that rotate around (you can also force new hints by clicking on the gray part of the widget).
Also, Apple fixed their iCal bug - so now events will show up in real-time again as you enter them. Thanks Apple engineers!
Feedback welcome!!! Here’s a quick screen grab:

I’ve released version 1.0 of QuickCal (You can grab it here). Toned down the pink look-and-feel, added a quick-calendar-change thing, fixed a couple bugs, … ready for one dot ‘oh!
More info can be found on this page.
Note: there is currently an Apple-confirmed iCal bug in Mac OS 10.5.4 which will cause iCal to not automatically display new events created from external sources, after being unhidden. The events will be created, just not shown until you switch views in iCal. If this is bothering you, just Apple-Q[uit] iCal, and restart it.
Comments/suggestions, post them here, or email to boutcher at gmail dot com.

Grab the latest HERE! The new version really is starting to get close to a 1.0, as I’ve added:
- Live preview - no more hoping this widget understands you when you hit submit, now you’ll see what it’s seeing in real-time
- MANY bug fixes
- Widget will check for new versions every 48 hours

New bugfix release, you can grab it here. Items fixed:
- Now will properly handle month names and abbreviations (”Light fireworks on July 4th”, “todo - lose 20 pounds before Jan 15th, 2009″)
- Day of week abbreviations contained in other words will now not be treated as days of weeks (There were problems dealing with “Go to a wedding sunday”, or “Pay SunAmerica bill on Monday”)

Just posted a new version, which contains “Smart Reminders”.
Smart Reminders will create alarms/reminders in iCal for any events you create. Many calendars do this. But what Smart Reminders does is create different types of reminders based on how far out the event was when you created it.
By default, all events will have a reminder set to 15 minutes away. Events created more than a week in advance will notify you the day before, as well. And if you create something more than a month away, a reminder will be created two weeks before the event. (So, one distant event = 3 reminders)
The intervals are fully configurable. You can turn this off, too. Just flip the widget over and explore.
Thanks to Pat Niemeyer for the concept… Keep the suggestions coming! And
download the new version!
